A theatrical adaptation in English and Vietnamese, mixing of Theatre, Improv, Dance and Music

A piece mixing Vietnamese ancestral rites and contemporary world aesthetics. 

PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT

ATH Drama and Arts Space, co-financied by the French Institut in Hanoi, present Ngày Xưa, a multicultural adaptation of tales and legends from ancient Vietnam (from -300 years ago).

Performed by a professional team of artists of Vietnamese and French origin, this adaptation aims to cross their different cultures in their languages, musical traditions and aesthetic references.
The show also offers a pleasant, whimsical and accessible journey into the diversity of theatrical forms.

STRUCTURE OF THE JOURNEY

In the beginning, there was nothing, and the world was created. Heaven and Earth separated, the moon and sun were born and Man appeared. He had to fight for his land, helped by Buddha.

The journey consists of 3 tales, come from the collection "Le lac né en une nuit et autres légendes du Vietnam" by Minh Tran Huy. They are still being told these days: while blending imagination, the supernatural, and realism.

The 3 tales are as follows:

"The giant": The tale that describes the creation of the world.
"The legend of ancient Vietnam": The story of the foundations of Vietnamese society.
"The Legend of the Betel Leaves and the Areca Nuts": A tale illustrating the fundamental links between humans and nature.

"The goal is also to create a pleasant, playful journey through the diversity of art's forms. By offering audiences an exploration of multiples scenic designs through 3 different tales, this adaptation is intended to be rich, breathless and generous, in the tradition of true popular theater" - Quentin Delorme
