Vietnam Airlines set to finish Hanoi-Dong Hoi route transfer to Vasco

Vietnam Airlines said on March 20 it would complete the transfer of the Hanoi-Dong Hoi route to the Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO), a subsidiary of the national flag carrier, on March 26.

On this short-haul route Vasco will take over three more flights a week after Vietnam Airlines handed over four flights. VASCO will operate seven flights a week on the Hanoi-Dong Hoi using ATR-72 turbo-prop airplanes with 68 seats.

Flights depart from Hanoi at 7:45 a.m. and from Dong Hoi, Quang Binh Province at 9:45 a.m. The flying time is one hour and 25 minutes.

The handover of Hanoi-Dong Hoi flights to VASCO is part of Vietnam Airlines’ plan to make better use of its resources and improve the efficiency of its operations and those of its affiliates VASCO and Jetstar Pacific Airlines (JPA).

Since it went public in late 2014, Vietnam Airlines has been modernizing its fleet to upgrade its products and services to four-star standards.

To this end, Vietnam Airlines has leased VASCO ATR-72 planes which are good for short-haul services operated by VASCO. Meanwhile, VASCO has sold two Fokker 70 jetliners and three ATR-72s, and returned five leased ATR-72s prior to maturity.

Vietnam Airlines will replace all 18 wide-body Boeing 777s and Airbus A330s with 33 Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350 planes to operate local and international flights.

Vietnam Airlines has transferred to Vasco short-haul flights HCMC-Rach Gia-Phu Quoc, HCMC-Phu Quoc-Can Tho and Hanoi-Dien Bien. Jetstar Pacific has taken over Hanoi-Tuy Hoa, HCMC-Tuy Hoa and HCMC-Chu Lai services from Vietnam Airlines.
